Kuryakyn Fish Side Stand Tips
Back to Tips

Instructions for Kuryakyn Fish Stand, including how to Fine Tune for More Lean.

PART# 407102 407102SPR
INCLUDED 1 Side Stand - Chrome 1 Spring - Chrome

TOOLS SUGGESTED
8mm and 14mm Wrenches, Vice grip.

PROCEDURE AVERAGE TIME: 20 MINUTES

STEP 1 Place the bike on the center stand. Place the side stand in the "up" position - this will make removal of the side stand  spring easier.
STEP 2 Remove the spring from the back of the stand by clamping a vice grip on the bottom of the spring and pulling straight back.
STEP 3 Remove the 8mm bolt from the side stand kill switch, and remove the switch. Remove the 14mm nut on the back side of the stand and the bolt from the front side. Remove the stand.
STEP 4'" Apply a small amount of grease to the bracket surface and the pivot bolt and install the new side stand in reverse order.

Caution When re-installing the switch, make sure the pin on the back side of the switch enters the small hole next to the pivot bolt. The pin can be rotated by hand if it is not in the right position.

FINE TUNING THE FOOT HEIGHT

Due to slight variations and rough mounting plates, it may be necessary to fine tune the up swing  distance between the foot and the side cover. This distance should be about a small finger width (3/8"-1/2"). Filing a slight amount off the edge of the mount stop surface will raise the foot.

Caution removing too much will cause the foot to contact the side cover. Removing only .002 can raise the foot about 1/8". (This piece of paper is approx. . .004 thick)

FINE TUNING FOR MORE LEAN
The Wing Rest side stand was designed to be about 1/2" longer than the stock side stand. This causes the bike to stand up straighter. In some cases more lean angle is desirable. This adjustment is also very easy - file a small amount off the edge of the mount stop surface as shown in the drawing below.
