Chatterbox Headset Install Tips

Install of:  Chatterbox Dynamic Noise-Reducing Stereo Mic & Speaker System, Open-Face Helmet Kit
Into: HJC Symax Flip-Up

I have previously used a Full-Face Chatterbox FRS Unit on my Symax helmet, and initially that's the type of Noise-Reducing Headset  I bought when I purchased the Wing.

With the Full-Face unit, you would just leave some slack in the mic, enabling the chin bar to open and close. This wouldn't be the case with the Chatterbox Noise-Reducing Unit (which is Wing compatible).  The mic wire is shorter in the Noise-Reducing units. I ended up having to exchange the Full-Face unit for an Open-Face unit.

To install, the Chatterbox unit simply clamps onto the outside of the helmet, no screws, no drilling. The speakers run through the liner, and into the ear inserts. The Symax comes with some ear inserts, which enable the speakers to be closer to your ear, and also to reduce any airflow/wind.

The boom mic runs on the outside of the helmet, and you have a couple of different options.
1) After putting on helmet, my wife has enough room between her helmet and her chin to actually bend the boom mic up under the helmet.
2) I on the other hand, big headed that I am, do not place the mic inside my helmet. The boom has a white dot on it, this is the side of the mic you should talk into.  So far it hasn't moved, but you just check that the white dot is facing up and back, towards the riders mouth, and your done.

We rode all weekend with this setup, from city to 90 mph on the highway, and there was minimal wind noise! For the price, these sounded very good with our stock radio and our iPod.

These pictures were taken as the camera battery was dying.  I will take better ones at a later date.
