Audio PinOuts

Does anyone know what pin holes are the outlets for left and right speakers from the stereo, I want to rig up a plug just for listening with headphones.

Fader Control

  • The FADER control only works for the bike speakers and not for the headsets

Intercom Setting

  • Between 10 and 13. Have J&M 374 and works fine up to 85MPH

  • 19 or 20 with J&M Headsets. Wish it could be a lot lower.

  • We run ours at around 10-15.

  •  I set my intercom at setting 12 and voice quality is crystal clear with no background noise engine or wind noise thru my wife's chatterbox noise reducing headset. I am running an air/rider headset on my end.. This combo works really well.

  • 20, at all times.

  • 17-20 with J&M sets

Mute Setting

  • 12-15

I have the intercom mute on 20 as when we talk we don't want to hear the music. At speeds above 70 to 75 the VOX (mike) seems to cut in and the music cuts out. I can shut the intercom off at these speeds and the music remains  How do I adjust (what do I adjust) so that at speeds above 75 we can still hear the music and be able to have the intercom on if we want to talk?

  • Try cutting your intercom mute back a notch or two. Sounds like you have it too sensitive and it's picking up wind and motorcycle noises causing it to mute your radio.

  • The Mute adjustment (on the Audio Unit) is to set when the headset mutes your AM/FM, when you talk in your microphone, depending on how loud the talk on the microphone is. You can set it to mute the Radio when you talk in a whisper or you can set it to not mute when you talk loud. You do understand that you must be listening to the Radio on the headset for the mute to work.

  • The mute setting for the intercom is the setting at which the radio is muted (in other words, how loud you have to talk to get the radio muted). You cannot adjust the "mute volume" (in other words the volume of the radio when muted). So, at a setting of 20, a very slight noise in the microphone (like wind) will cause the radio to mute. At a setting of 2 or 3, the person has to talk really loud to get the radio to mute. Depends upon a number of factors where I set mine. Usually around mid-point or so but if it is very windy (noisy) then I set it lower (5 or 6).

Radio Volume

  • 18-23 with headsets; 16-20 on external speaker. Much better quality on ext. speakers.

Now lets really put it in perspective (note this is my case only): 1) . 2)  3) 4) I often need to set the CB squelch to 19 or 20, so set it there. 5) I can't be heard as well on this CB as the one on my 1500, so what, I don't use it for life and death, just casual conversations and it isn't "that" bad. 6) I can hear the horn, ABS check and static when I hit a large bump if my CB is set at less than 19. How often do I use my horn, an occasional small static hit keeps me awake and I should be avoiding large bumps.

Problems

  • AVC doesn't work with the headset so I adjust the volume a bit more - big deal

  • CD is way louder than the radio, so I adjust the volume when I switch between them.

  • I don't have as good a reception as I'd like, so, listen to the CD.

Sticking Buttons

While on a little weekend trip I ran into rain and wind. After staying the night in a motel, I hit the weather band function on the radio and switched from the headsets to the faring speakers. To my dismay, the buttons stuck. Some sand and dirt from the parking lot was wedged in between the buttons prevented them from return up. I found out that when one button is stuck down, none of the radio or cb buttons work. The fix: I went to Wal-mart and bought a few sewing needles and a can of compressed computer cleaner. That did the trick. So I have added these items to my "must have" list. I think a mistake was made in not having the radion cover as the GL1500's did.

Honda Headsets

Funny how rumors float around isn't it ? Here is the straight "skinny" ,,,,,, The Hondaline headsets that J&M currently builds for American Honda use the J&M DynaPort speakers for the open face, our standard top quality speakers for the Full Face style (( full face style helmets generally cannot make use of the DynaPort tubes )) both in a Honda exclusive, soft outer housing...... They use a "Dynamic" microphone (( designed by Honda )) for both the open and full face, a J&M single clamp (( last 18 months only )) on mounting system and a 5 pin right angle, single section hook-up cord,,,, We use only our "best" components for the Honda headsets,,, they are top-of-the-line all the way,,,,,, The only things I think could be improved upon are a reduction in the amount of microphone wind noise and I wish they were in a "dual mode" configuration so that the headsets would work on all motorcycle audio systems available by utilizing our 8 pin twin section hook-up cord system,,,,, John Lazzeroni john@l...
